There will probably be a “holiday character” to take “family” pictures with. Will it be a scary baby leather guy (see Pippi’s section), Masshole-Smurf or a winter highway? Who knows, but you will want to hold the special media moment in your heart forever.
More seriously though, there will also be an art supply “store” with lots of sequins and paint and pipe cleaners donated by Karen Gilbert, proceeds to go to the Interlace Emergency Grant fund - great gift stuff!!
There will also be snacks…i.e. a food court, i.e. maybe some popcorn and cookies. It will be sweet, but maybe not as deluxe as the meat swan that Cole made, or the homage to the room 8 floor crafted out of cheese by Reg for the last open house at WCH.

| | | November - December Word Shelter artist: The Langston Hughs Poetry Project |
|
| |
The Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading (LHCPR) was the first national event organized with a mission to carry the legacy of Langston Hughes within a community context. The reading occupies an important place and history within the Rhode Island community since 1985. The event was inspired by Mr. Hughes' last personal secretary - the late George Houston Bass. In its early stages, the confluence was first conceived as an art center hosted at the OIC, eventually formalizing and growing into the Langston Hughes Center for the Arts and Education (1985-2002) under the leadership of Anne Edmonds Clanton. A new committee of dedicated Rhode Island and Southeastern New England representatives has managed the LHCPR since 2015. The community readings event, the flagship program of LHCPR, are held at the Providence Public Library and prior to that, the RISD Museum, both in downtown Providence. The organization has been consistently female and black led since 1985
Poems by Langston Hughs will be on the Word Shelter through the end of the year. |

| | Heyoooo, I am parting with words. And by that, I mean, I am a body in motion. In meditation. Mediating getting to the next destination. Bi-cycles, endurance events til dawn, dance dance dance, now SING!!! I mean, I don’t wanna say what I mean!!
But in all seriousness, collaboration corroborates my reasons for living. I’ve been finding out what happens when I decide to work on a project with my closest friends who I would be seeing anyway. New connections! Is neuroplasticity the name of the game? I swear, I’m getting somewhere with this |

Howdy Dirt Palace Palatials, Q here, swept up in the Wet & Gray embrace of Late Fall! What seasonal delights! I hope you are out there cultivating a cozy nest for you and yours ~ perhaps making a running list of joyful indoor activities. Might I suggest Hot-gluing some debris together? Make a new Friend out of Acorns? A rousing game of Rummikub - money on the table? The possibilities are wide-reaching but, regrettably, finite so get a-brainstormin’!
Here are some updates from my current p r a c t i c e:
š We’ve been busy over at Big Feeling Ice Cream (769 Westminster), despite the slight seasonal slowdown! I hope that you will visit us if you haven’t already. Very proud of the team there and we are rapidly approaching our 1 Year Anniversary in January!
š Programming is ever poppin-off at Lost Bag. As of now - our presence is most active on social media for finding out what is going down.
š I am slowly building a new body of paintings - with my next install coming up in March for the Dirt Palace Window! Not for nothing but I also tidied up my website, and added a Store! Check it out! The process was tedious!
š January 10th-23rd I will be going on Tour opening for Berlin-based Musician Bex Burch (in ensemble with Laurel Pardue, Gabriel Birnbaum, and Booker Stardrum). She is debuting a new piece called “as yet untitled,” and I will be reading Poems! I am also using this tour as an occasion to put together my first Dirt Palace Event as a resident on January 18th! Hope to see you here, annnnnd/orrrrrrrr in Brooklyn, Philly, DC, Frostburg, Catskill, Boston, Keene, or Paterson!
Attached below is the Poster I made for the tour. Hand Cut, Glued, and Risograph-printed in Aqua, Black, Crimson, and Sunflower Ink at Binch Press//Queer.Archive.Work.
Thank you! Stay Sweet!

Well, folks, this is it! My last DP Digest ever!!!!!! I can’t even begin to fathom where the last 3 years have gone.
I wish I had something more profound to say but I’ve found that most endings are unceremonious. The sun sets, the world turns, and you begin again, again, again. How Sisyphean: the act of continuing.
Maybe that’s why I don’t feel any more profound that usual. This isn’t the end but the continuation of everything I started at Dirt Palace. So many paths forward; I’m overwhelmed with which to take. The world is bubbling right at my fingertips. What a privilege, what an honor to be overflowing with possibilities.
I’ll stay in Providence for the time being. I want to spend more time with my loved ones before I jump ship (aka Rhode Island aka America possibly?). I have so many visions of a life for myself. May God grant me the courage to run toward it.
Thank you, Dirt Palace. Thank you, Xander and Pippi. I stumbled upon DP accidently and here I am now, irrevocably changed for the better. I’ll remember our time together fondly.
Lovingly, Naffi (& senoj ≽^•⩊•^≼) |

| | It has been a crazy little while! What a time of year! Feeling incredibly normal about the sun going down soo early, thankfully. Would really suck if I wasn’t cool with that… Experiencing new grief and old grief and figuring out how to make that work. Making a nest has helped. Running in place and going swimming has helped. Seeing the people I love has helped.
Being doing some really cool tattoos! I feel super proud of the work I have been putting out and that feels really nice! |

Feeling really excited for the holiday faire! I really love planning it so much. Even though no one reads my emails, it’s nice to feel organized about something. I’m making so many little objects for the holiday faire and it’s going to be a blast! Making more lighters and incense burners! Have a couple prints in the works! Made some patches again! exciting!! |
|
| | I’m going to Nashville at the end of this week and that’s going to be fun! We’re road tripping back up to RI over the course of a couple days and I’ll even probably get to see Jaylyn in DC! Haven’t gotten to see them in like two years and it’s felt like a million years! If you have any Nashville (or anywhere on the way up) recommendations, email me!! (fernfloods@gmail.com) Been having a lot of fun with my nails! Here’s the current ones: |

I’m going to miss Naffi a bunch! It doesn’t feel real that she’s going to be moving out?? Can’t believe we’ve been living together for 2.5 years! Her contributions and perspective in the house will be sorely missed! My tattoo books are OPEN for December and January!! Come get some flash or a cutie custom! Book anything until 12/14 and get 20% off :3 |

| | | | | Ses, I love your emails, but also I love that you are coming to the understanding that arts admin is like at least half making detailed plans that nobody pays any attention to that you painstakingly document in written communication that lie unread in pile of email detritus. But if you didn’t put together all of the plans it would be abject chaos! Riding the waves of abject chaos is the other half of arts admin. I’m loving being in the work, even though the political reality is catching up with the material reality in more and more heartbreaking ways. Got teary reading Naffi’s post. Got some things going on this month. Dec 8th, really pumped to blab it up on the internet as part of New York Comics & Picture-story Symposium. To get a link, email comicssymposium@gmail.com. I’m going to be pulling some treasures from the Dirt Palace Library and riffing on Rhode Island’s role in the rise of risography in North America circa 2008/09. Dec 11th - extremely excited about Storied Providence, which is a benefit for The Providence Eye, a not-for-profit independent news organization, which is potentially the most radical & difficult thing to be in 2025. Secretly love the social whirlwind of December, the catch up and cozying in. Keeping grounded in USA shits storm for your soul by by basking in the beauty of nature (i know it sounds corny, but IT IS kinda working). Sunset at Deep Hole. Parking lot filled with at least 30 other weirdos in wetsuits. |

| | LIBRARY HI_LITE!!!!! Dirt Palace Library on the New York Comics & Picture Story Symposium |
|
| | A whole zoom “meeting” that is essentially one big Library Hi-Lite!! This Monday Dec 8th! Send an email to comicssymposium@gmail.com to receive the link - Maybe Xander will tell everybody about the time when we burned a lot of books in her wood stove and hung out in our underwear in January? Maybe you think book burning is bad, but if I told you that most of the books were like “101 fat free muffins” would you reconsider recycling printed pages into warmth? One thing that’s pretty cool about the NY Comics & Picture Story Symposium is that they are on like event 452 or something. I.e. they’ve been organizing this cool thing for years and years! Also you can watch after the fact on You-Tube. |
