OH MY GOSH! OUR OCTOBER WINDOW INSTALLATION NEVER MADE IT INTO THE DIGEST!!!!! October's installation was by AS220 VISUALS. This installation created by AS220 Youth in collaboration by AS220 labs, was inspired by the immigration of Cape Verdeans to Providence in the early nineteenth century. AS220 Youth is a free arts education program for young people ages 14-21, with a special focus on those in the care and custody of the state. They offer workshops at their downtown studio, the Rhode Island Training School (RITS) the state's juvenile detention facility, and the UrbanCollaborative Accelerated Program (UCAP), a middle school for at-risk youth.
DECEMBER Window Installation was by Eastern Connecticut State University's Digital Design class:
Students from Eastern Connecticut State University's Creative Problem Solving class worked hard all semester to bring an exhibition to fruition in the window gallery of the Dirt Palace in Providence, Rhode Island.
The culmination of their semester-long collaboration was a poster exhibition about the complexities of freedom in America. Most of the students had never collaborated before, nor had they put together an art exhibition. The result was a hands-on learning experience that could not have happened with out the help of the Dirt Palace!
This JANUARY'S installation is by our very own JR URETSKY
J.R. Uretsky is an interdisciplinary artist who navigates the complexities of human emotion through an autobiographical voice. Uretsky’s work uses humor and empathy to both, celebrate and critique a disruption of personal space through anthropomorphic sculpture, puppetry, performance and videos that are visually and emotionally intense.
Uretsky's exhibition in the Dirt Palace Window Gallery, titled Bling! Bling! is an installation of sculptures Uretsky created between 2009 - 2012. Each sculpture was made for an individual, some of which are active members of the Olneyville community ... can anyone guess which sculptures where made for who?
When asked how she felt about finishing up her performance series Uretsky replied, "fries?"
Oh and, thanks to everyone who came to the show and to Xander for video help!
Jamie also painted the dirt palace window pink and tossed a bunch of sculptures in there! Swing by and check it out! Or sit in your bed on your computer and look at these!
December kinda ruled too as Jamie was an Artist in Residence at Big Red & Shiny, read her blog posts here! *** No babes were harmed in the making or showing of J.R.'s sculpture.

When Jieun isn't busy cruisin' in her new Cadillac, she has managed to do such things as: bind Michelle Kwan's wedding guestbook, try new & cool things, and work, work, work toward long term studio goals. Mostly though, she's been jamming on her sick ride. Who could blame her! 2013!
They were recently interviewed by fashion/theory blog A L'Allure Garconniere about my inspirations, comics, transcendence, the end of the world. You can read it here!

Bored of the Rings is a paperback parody of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In the 1969 novel, all names a parodied with name brands like Dildo Bugger of Bag Eye, Frito Bugger, Moxie and Pepsi Dingleberry. I did a brief Wiki and found that the one we have is the first edition cover drawn by Muppets designer Michael K. Frith!
