At any given time there are five "members" or Artists in Residence at the location in Olneyville Sq that we now refer to as “Dirt Palace Classic”. Together they have built and maintained studios and shared facilities that include: seven live/work artist in residence spaces, a library, a large shared kitchen, a print shop (specializing in screen print and letterpress), a music rehearsal space, a wood shop, an animation/film editing suite, and a workspace for large projects. Artist in resident openings at Dirt Palace Classic for April and June 1st. This year’s window gallery will be graced by installations by Elizabeth Jweinat, aka Lizzy Sour, School One’s the Art Pathway - Bjorn Emerson, Elizabeth Golaski, Finn Mertes and Ava Pollard, Jungil Hong, Naffisatou Koulibaly, Spocka Summa, Elizabeth Duffy, & Edwige Charlot. Truthfully I have a soft spot for this month & particularly Valentines Day (Halloween of the Heart). I so hope that you are out there finding some comfort in collective action, rest, and/or personal practice! This is my second Winter here at the Palace, and I am once again floored by the Spaciousness this Residency has gifted me. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to truly Play within my creative practices, but I’ve set a list of Generative Constraints that have been super activating and gently ferrying me through some Deep Grief I have been feeling. A series of 12 New Paintings & Poems of mine (that emerged from this new practice) called “BRAND NEW HOLE” will be on display all February at the Fuller Speedshop (do reach out if you need directions ~ gallery hours are 8am-2pm Sat, Sun).  On February 9th we will do a special Celebration with Luminous Jazz Duo Vincent Ama + Sam (starting at 11am)! I’ll be making a special Ice Cream for that one ~ perfect for Affogatos. Speaking of which BIG FEELING ICE CREAM is NOW OPEN at 769 Westminster Street! Come visit us Weds through Sun 12pm-9pm. It’s been feeling really special! &&&& Of Course Lost Bag is picking up again!  I’ve attached some flyers at the tail end of this newsletter. Missing exyl and the space he took up (physically) and dealing with the ever reverberating grief of everything! Art has felt easier to make with a medication change, so that is really exciting. Still exhausted from general fatigue and the baby store i work at, but managing some of that. It’s a long read, and if you make it to the end, you will still likely not have any answers, but maybe it’s as good of a time as ever to be thinking about the power of young people being together in community in the past/present/future.
